About Us

Our History

Jensen School Business Consulting was formed in June 2022, following the retirement of its founder, Rick Jensen, after working 30 years in the K-12 education business arena.  Rick served first as a school district accountant in California's Central Valley.  Following this initial experience, he was hired as a director of fiscal services in the San Gabriel Valley.  Finally, he served as an assistant superintendent of business services in the Inland Empire.  Having worked mainly in business operations, he is uniquely qualified in preparing required state and federal financial reports, building budgets, preparing year-end closing entries, working closely with the external auditors, and performing enrollment projections.

Our Mission

At Jensen School Business Consulting, Inc., our mission is to empower school districts to become and remain fiscally solvent. We provide bespoke consulting services that focus on your unique needs and goals.

We live by the adage, "We are trying to work ourselves out of a job".  To us, this means that if we do our jobs correctly, we not only assist with hands-on solutions, but we build the capacity within your business departments so that our services are no longer needed.  We realize that this goal is counterintuitive to other consultants who try to make themselves indispensable. With over 1000 school districts in California, we don't expect to be idle!

How we can help

Jensen School Business Consulting (JSBC) partners with school districts and charter schools to provide experienced, interim, and advisory business services support during leadership vacancies, transitions, and periods of increased operational demand. Our work is tailored to meet the immediate and long-term needs of Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents of Business Services, Chief Business Officials and Directors of Fiscal Services.

Leaning on his extensive background, knowledge and skill base, he works with districts and charter schools throughout the state.  He is fluent in some of the major financial systems used in California and quickly learns any new systems, which means he is able to hit the ground running once he engages with your agency.

As President and CEO of JSBC, Rick not only performs the work but also teaches a Director of Fiscal Services Academy hosted by Total School Solutions, providing hands-on training and mentorship to new Directors of Fiscal Services and Chief Business Officials, equipping them to lead effectively in their districts.

Rick has supported districts throughout California, including Barstow Unified School District, Upland Unified School District, Oro Grande School District, San Gabriel Unified School District, Tustin Unified School District, Cabrillo Unified School District, Bellevue Union School District, Soledad Unified School District, Compton Unified School District, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and Tree of Life Charter School. These partnerships reflect a deep understanding of both day-to-day operations and the broader strategic and governance needs of K–12 educational agencies.
